The percussion sets the tone of urgency in this song:
Here are the lyrics:
Looks like, no one bothered to say
When you brave the world at night
There's no sympathy
Sunlight, still shines everyday
Is it any wonder why
All the people say
(you gotta) get back to the light
When you face the world alone
It's an uphill fight
(you gotta) get back to the light
Cus you're not the only one
With a dream tonight
Uptight and withered away
And most everyone you know
Has nothing to give
Inside that dark empty space
And you're whishin' you were gone
But you still remain
(you gotta) get back to the light
When you face the world alone
It's an uphill fight
(you gotta) get back to the light
Because you're not the only one
With a dream tonight
When you brave the world at night
There's no sympathy
Sunlight, still shines everyday
Is it any wonder why
All the people say
(you gotta) get back to the light
When you face the world alone
It's an uphill fight
(you gotta) get back to the light
Cus you're not the only one
With a dream tonight
Uptight and withered away
And most everyone you know
Has nothing to give
Inside that dark empty space
And you're whishin' you were gone
But you still remain
(you gotta) get back to the light
When you face the world alone
It's an uphill fight
(you gotta) get back to the light
Because you're not the only one
With a dream tonight

It's amazing how many songs are stories of sad people our broken love affairs.
ReplyDeleteHi,Ariel !
ReplyDeleteI like the beginning of the song the way the drums beating seems to jump up to the beat of our own heart ! Here's what i did .
1) After i heard the beginning of the song,i re-played it .
2) I slept on the floor, open on ears and imagining the paradise i want to dream of.
3) As Aya sang,i opened my ears, closed my eyes and think of wonderful that's going to happen around me.
4) As i listened,my body felt relaxed and seem to massage on its own !
My heart was touched when i heard ''(you gotta) get back to the light
Because you're not the only one
With a dream tonight ''.
Overall,Thanks for really sharing this song and i am thinking of making a cover of male version !

The percussion indeed sets the tone, and propels the song along. But I found the rhythm echoing the 'lub-dub' of a beating heart, and found it comforting and reassuring, rather than urgent. As the previous commenter observed...it's a great tempo for letting the heart relax and open to the light. Another intriguing post, Ariel!
ReplyDeleteLove the Salsa beat - and, "when you face the world alone, it's an uphill fight..." - we are at our best when we share the good times and bad times together.
ReplyDeleteMake your own light! I see it every night and day... I don't depend on it to happen. I make it happen. works for me. Love you sista.... send me a link to the song, maybe I will understand this better. BUT MAKE YOUR OWN LIGHT. NIGHT and DAY.
